Christopher Joseph's "The Illusion of Superiority" may not be a typical self-help book. It goes inside and drills deeper to analyze the feelings of superiority in humans and the surprising connection that they have with the unknown. Such a mix is unusual but very intriguing for the insight into self-identification.

The book starts with a familiar foe: ego. Through his lens, Joseph unmasks the mechanisms of the superiority complexes, which ultimately run nations and lives. He demonstrates this truth with his characteristic brilliance through his disclosure of how "delusion" is the cause of war, stagnancy, and boredom. This section beautifully shows how critical it is for us to challenge ourselves, our own biases, and the societal hierarchy.

Yet, the novel offers an unexpected shift and moves to deal with the invisible world. Joseph thinks that the desire we have to be superior could be a defense mechanism that fights against the truth we cannot understand, such as the spirit sector. This is the real point here; he stitches in fascinating incidents from his own life and talks to shamans and incarnates. On one hand, this part is quite engaging; on the other hand, this part might appease those who want more scientific precision. The editing was great and free from any issues, and there wasn't even one thing that I can dislike.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. The strength of The Illusion of Superiority is its capacity to undermine our intellectual supremacy. It makes us search for not only our own status on earth but also the fact of our existence. Fail to think about it as a philosophical quest, then. The goal is not a definition but self-discovery.

This may not appeal to everyone. The skeptic may say that the jump to the supernatural is not well supported. On the other hand, for those who are receptive to different views, this book takes you on a fascinating journey beyond the ego and may eventually break our comfortable illusions and lead to an insightful understanding of the universe.
