Who Told You That You Were Naked is a religious book (Christian to be precise) that focusses on the aspect of nakedness of Adam and Eve after they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The writer William E. Combs is a knowledgeable man who uses his experience, gotten from many years of pastoring and being part of theological studies, to bring the source of sin into the world through Adam and how the Lord has redeemed us by His grace through faith from this formidable adversary “crouching at the door.”

There is an orderly arrangement of events right from chapter one to chapter ten. Starting with how things were at the Garden of Eden, the innocence and harmony that existed then, proved everything was just good. How Adam was given dominion over all creeping creatures, to the beast of the ocean and land and all creation under the sun making him a god to them all. How his intellect is vividly displayed when he named all creatures. This profound authority triggered envy to the “ prince of the world,” inform of a serpent appearing to Eve deceiving her to ingest the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil that God commanded them not to. From this act God had already laid the salvation history before the foundations of this earth to save human race from death through His son Jesus Christ. He who knew no sin was made sin for us to be redeemed and through Him we become the righteousness of God.

Do you know the efforts we put every day in our daily work to excel, be rich and get recognized for the glorification of our names are all vanity? Do you know that pleasing God with our strengths and abilities ends up being a disappointment to Him? Wow! Very intriguing, what Combs is implying is we can do nothing by ourselves to please God, but by just believing no works incorporated. The truth unveiled is shocking, really! Just that, seems odd, it antagonizes everything in our daily lives where we have to strive, work our way to earn friends’ and relatives’ respect. Our God doesn’t need that. This is very informative indeed

For us to be returned back to Gods wonderful plan and experience His rest, we need to get saved. We let Jesus Christ be the Lord and Savior of our lives, as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling. The Bible, Gods voice and Gods peace will aid us in our walk with Him and help overcome the principles of darkness and forces of evil, for we do not battle against flesh and blood. There is a confirmation that we won’t be alone, rather a helper, the Holy Spirit, will give us direction to walk as per Gods will.

The author throughout the text quotes biblical verses to expound further, the relation he gives between the Old Testament (OT) and New Testament (NT), how the OT is a shadow of truth of NT. He basically dwells on the gospel books and letters of Paul to communicate his message. This shows his insightfulness and also provided a quicker referencing method.

It’s an informative book where he does not go off-track to interfere with the flow, he uses study questions at each chapter end to challenge his readers, the personal stresses on bible quotes he puts and the personal testimonies; his and Miriam’s- his wife, gives an assurance that what he speaks isn’t a fantasy but the complete truth. Ill rate it 3 out of 4 stars since it’s just aimed for staunched Christians and those willing to get saved limiting the totality of readers out there today. Furthermore, what seemed much confusing and couldn’t recommend was the use of questions whose answers were later provided in the text. I appreciate his need to create suspense in his readers but at the end of the line, I still had unsolved queries. Posed questions should be tackled immediately.
