I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading Life, loss, and love. It was hard for me to get into, and I asked myself why this lady was writing a book and what was so special about her. I thought it would be the one book I couldn’t finish. Boy, was I glad to be wrong. I kept reading and then couldn’t stop reading. That is why I gave this book four out of four stars. Susan is such an amazing woman to have gone through all that she has, from being made to feel less than as a child and then as an adult by her husband to dealing with all of the rumors and disbelief of her struggle with her disease. She truly is an inspiration to keep going. I finished the book in 3 days because I couldn’t stop reading about her. I had to know what happened next and what she did.

I am dealing with the grief of losing my father two years ago, and it has been hard to come to terms with. Reading about Susan's struggles and victories gave me a sense of satisfaction for her and my own life. I have never felt so much empathy and happiness for a stranger as I have for Susan Nicholson. It was heartbreaking reading about how her husband treated her when she was trying to deal with having a psychosomatic disorder to find out years after the fact that she had a genetic disease called hereditary spastic paraplegia. It was also heartbreaking to find out that her husband acted the way he did because of a hidden addiction. She chalked it all up to his anxiety and depression and found out too little too late that he had a problem with addiction.

Reading this book further instills the belief that you cannot give up no matter how tough times are, especially as a mother, and to always make sure your children feel loved and supported throughout it all. I was happy for her through all of the triumphs she wrote about in the book, she deserves all of the happiness in the world. I did not find any errors in this book. She is from Australia, so it was written in the British dialect, which to those of us Americans would appear to have many typos and grammatical errors. I rated this book four out of five because of the aforementioned details and because it had no typos or grammatical errors. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs hope. If even from a stranger, pick this up and read it. You will find your hope and inspiration through Susan Nicholson.
