Throughout this book Anti-Black prejudice in America by Anders Eklof, colonial attitudes and racial attitudes are explored. An extensive overview of slavery in North America, including oppression, riots, and lynchings, is provided in the text during the Jim Crow era. Several factors contribute to the development of this phenomenon, including tribalism, religion, and sexuality. As consequence of its rationalism and adherence to its main religion, the country has created a system that unfairly treats millions of people based on their race, leading to the deaths of millions of people.

Throughout East Africa's history, small tribes have been part of social groups for a long time. During times of adversity, these tribes' emotional bonds are strengthened, and their loyalty is strengthened. Additionally, tribal instincts can motivate mistrust and hostility towards individuals as well as toward other tribes. Having read this book, I found it to be both intriguing and educational. A particular aspect that I found particularly interesting was how it explored how human psychology is shaped by our evolutionary past and cultural contexts.

The reason I like this book is that it appreciates the discussion that also references the work of figures such as Sigmund Freud, who highlighted the role of repression and social norms in shaping individual and collective behaviour. The article concludes that deep-rooted prejudices do not just arise from rational reasons but are influenced by our primal instincts and historical narratives as well. A distinguishing feature of the book is how the author explains the history of racial prejudice in America with a comprehensive yet concise overview. Throughout the book, examples are given that span the history of slavery to the present day, which is commendable.

I dislike this book for several reasons, starting with the fact that the font size chosen by the author is far from comfortable for the reader. It's frustrating to strain my eyes just to make out the words on the page. Additionally, the size of the front cover is unnecessarily large, making it cumbersome to handle and store. These seemingly small issues detract from the overall reading experience and leave me feeling less inclined to engage with the content. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.

I gave this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars as it offers a thorough exploration of anti-Black prejudice in America, intertwining historical context with insights from psychology and evolutionary theory. References to figures like Sigmund Freud add depth to the discussion of societal norms and behaviors. However, the uncomfortable font size and oversized front cover detract from the reading experience. Despite these flaws, the book provides valuable insights into systemic racism and human psychology, making it both educational and thought-provoking. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities of racial prejudice in America.
