Many of us have heard about the great benefits of meditation and may have attempted it, only to fail to follow through with the practice. When one thinks about meditation, what likely comes to mind is sitting cross-legged, eyes closed, and focusing intensely. In The Warrior's Meditation by Richard L. Haight, the author explains how meditation can be more than just a rigid practice and introduces his own form of meditation that he discovered and refined with his martial arts teacher in Japan. This meditation, known as the Warrior's Meditation, can be practiced with the aim of enriching one's life through greater awareness. This is a form of meditation that one can eventually practice while engaged in daily activities such as walking, talking, and working. Filled with ample research, the book thoroughly explains the principles of meditation and provides several exercises that one can do to become more aware and present in their life.

I've always thought of meditation as a practice requiring a certain form to achieve a relaxed mind for a brief period. This book, however, has broadened my understanding of meditation and provided valuable insights into the science behind it, such as the difference between beta waves and alpha waves of the brain. What I most appreciated about the book was the research and the author's clear explanations of the principles of meditation and the different senses and exercises for consciously focusing on each for the purpose of meditation.

I also enjoyed how the author encourages exploration as one meditates and the inclusion of exploration exercises to help the reader better understand meditation and its benefits. This is not just a book where one is told what to do, there is a clear purpose behind the guided exercises, and the author notes that there is no right or wrong way to do something, but rather an exploration of what feels right.

I found nothing to dislike about the book and can only say positive things about it. It was well-written, and I noticed no errors while reading. Due to the positives mentioned in the previous paragraphs and how it was overall a worthwhile read, I rate The Warrior's Meditation five out of five stars. I recommend this book to individuals interested in meditation and seeking to have more enriching lives.
