Who told you that you were naked? a refreshing reexamination of the garden of Eden by William E. Combs is a resourceful, Christian, motivational book. William E. combs, carefully reexamines the events that took place in the garden of Eden (man’s first habitat). He reckons that if a Christian understands the concept of the origin of sin and its nature, that flees him/her from the bondage of sin.

Who told you that you are naked? embarks on a journey of demystifying sin right from the garden of Eden. This starting point creates an environment that makes it easy for the reader to establish a strong foundation as he/she delves deeper into what causes man to fall into sin with an aim of finding a solution to it. I found each chapter to be very well researched and supported by scripture making the writer’s view credible and agreeable to me. In presenting Jesus as the savior to the whole human race, the writer makes use of very clear illustration that would resonate with a non-believer let alone a believer. Consequently, this has the ability to attract different kinds of audience to reading the book whether out of sheer curiosity of self-development.

In all the ten chapters, William makes use of a very interactive style of writing through the use of study questions at the end of each chapter to provide the reader with a platform to gauge their understanding of the themes discussed. Unlike other books I’ve read on the origin of sin, this one stood out for me to the extent that it invoked in me the desire to reexamine my own life in relation to what led Adam and Eve to fall into sin. To add humor to the book, William puts his creativity to good use through the use of short imagery stories to illustrate creation as recorded in the bible. While this may have added twist to the creation story, its purpose is to arouse the attention of the reader and my attention was aroused by this.

Overall, who told you that you are naked? successfully achieves its intended purpose though it would be important to note that the book would be more useful to the reader if read along with the different scripture references quoted in the book rather than reading it in isolation.

My rating for this book is 4 out of 4 stars which I attribute to the professional editing and all the other reasons indicated above. I would recommend it to any Christian or non-Christian struggling with sin though the book would also be a good resource for sermon notes on the origin and nature of sin to any person intending to preach in that area.

how did you find the use of short imaginative stories to narrate the story of creation?

It sounds like an interesting book. The use of interacting writing style by adding questions at the end of each chapter is a great way to hold everyone's attention, and keep them focused throughout.

Again another book that I've read many reviews of but haven't read myself. I enjoy comparing the many reviews. I am Catholic and am very familiar with the story of creation. I am curious about the author's version. His use of God's question to Adam and Eve is a clever ploy. I laud authors who are able to find creative means of sharing their faith.
