Who told you that you were naked? A refreshing reexamination of the garden of eden by William E. Combs.
William looks at how sin came into the earth through Adam and his wife in Genesis one to four and how we are called to rule over it. His emphasis is on the importance of re-establishing a relationship by faith with Christ so that by the renewing of our minds Jesus can take over and become our Lord. For it is impossible to please God without faith. Our faith is to be cultivated by the Bible, God’s voice and God’s peace so that we may be able to endure suffering in our Christian walk. It is important to note that God has chosen as to perform a unique role with his son in the body of Christ so that you may serve as one who is salt to the world.
I loved the way the author gave the story a good flow with each chapter relating to the other. I especially loved the inspiration to input personal testimonials of how he accepted Christ into his life before which he felt that his life was lacking something and how he was called into ministry. In addition, his testimonials on his fight against evil spirits made my heart skip a bit owing to his vivid descriptions of the happenings.
It impressive how the concept of living in God’s rest is explained through my all time best illustration in the book of the baseball game where the visiting team is ahead by one run, with the tying run on at first base and two strikes. The crowd holding its breath as the pitcher hurls a fastball down the middle of the strike zone-only to erupt in thunderous shouting as the batter connects for a home run to win the game. However, the next evening while watching the sport report to savor the moment one last time the heart is not at the throat because of the knowledge of what will happen next. This illustration serves to indicate that it should be the same for our walk with Christ with us at rest sure of what to expect from God. For me this was a home run to the win with lovely message delivery.
The book forms a very good foundational understanding of the Christian faith due to the strong mention of the Bible verses and message. It is also an easy read because of the simple English. It served to greatly inform and improve my knowledge on Christianity. It was not only informative but truly memorable and enjoyable in every sense. I only noticed one typo that is Corinthians 5:23 instead of Corinthians 5:21. I would therefore rate it as 4 out of 4 stars.
Finally, the strong mention of bible verses relates it to the Christian reader and may therefore not be appropriate for individuals who do not ascribe to Christian value systems and faith. I strongly recommend the book for Christians who are teens and above.
