The book Who Told You That You Were Naked? A Refreshing Reexamination of the Garden of Eden is a non-fiction Christian book by Reverend William E. Combs. The book gives an in-depth description of the Genesis book illustrating more of the daily activities of the Garden Of Eden. I describe this book as a must read for every Christian. It will assist every Christian to understand the concept of sin.
According to Williams sin as a powerful adversary crouches at the door of every person’s heart.Sin originates from Adam and Eve’s act of rebellion. They ate the fruit of the forbidden tree with the intention of becoming wise like God. However, this never happened, instead their hearts were filled with shame and guilt when they realized they were naked. William denotes that it is not the disobedience that mattered rather their relationship with God was the issue. The knowledge of good and evil birthed sin and death. From the time of Adam, the world perceives sin as a list of misdeeds and goodness was measured by your ability to resist sin. The result of sin only brought a sense of shame and guilt drawing men away from God.
Just as the serpent (Satan) deceived Eve, he is constantly deceiving people even today. Men broke the relationship with God through sin, and He had to look for a way to revive the relationship. The only solution to clothing a man from his nakedness was through the sacrifice of His only Son on the Cross. Williams explains this by picking up references from the Epistles. Apostle Paul explains how Jesus Christ clothes us with righteousness. Jesus took our shame through his death on the cross that we may become righteous before God by believing in Him. This faith is what we call salvation. The power of sin receives defeat on the Cross, and every person who receives Christ is now a conqueror of sin. Whenever a Christian fall short of God’s glory there is no need to hide from God in shame and guilt. The believer only needs to go to Jesus with a broken heart asking for forgiveness by confessing his sins. Jesus is always ready to cleanse his sins through the blood of Jesus.
The book also has discussion questions that are very helpful to every believer conducting personal devotions. The questions are also useful for Bible study group discussions. I also enjoyed reading the personal testimonies of the author, his wife Miriam and their church members.
I love reading this book as it was fascinating. As a Christian, I have never read a book explaining the concept of sin with a simple language that is easy to understand as this book. I, therefore, give this book a rating of four out of four stars.
