Review of The Advent of Time
The Advent of Time by Indignus Servus, published in 2024, delves into the Christian theological conundrum of the problem of evil. With a focus on the prerequisites of love and an analysis of timeless beings, the book posits a solution to this age-old philosophical dilemma. It argues that the purpose of humanity's creation is to exist eternally in a loving relationship with God in a supra-temporal state.
Drawing upon various passages from the Bible and other religious texts, the author addresses the issues of suffering, pain, and evil, emphasizing the importance of love and faith. Indignus Servus describes God as all-wise, all-loving (omnibenevolent), all-powerful (omnipotent), and all-just, grounding the discussion in theological principles. The book explores how humanity's fall from a state of timeless being to a time-based existence was a consequence of the original sin.
The reason I like this book is due to the author's compelling exploration of the origins of humanity and the consequences of our actions. By delving into the Genesis narrative, the book elucidates how mankind's selfish desires led to the experience of evil, pain, and suffering. It presents a thought-provoking perspective that God never intended for humans to endure such hardships, but rather, it was the consequence of our exercise of free will in pursuing knowledge of good and evil.
Despite this, the book highlights God's justice in allowing humans to face the repercussions of their choices rather than destroying them outright. Moreover, the book's use of biblical references effectively reinforces the themes of faith, love, and free will, providing a comprehensive understanding of these fundamental aspects of human existence.
The reason I dislike this book is due to the author's tendency to frequently digress from the main topic, which detracted from my focus on the subject matter. These deviations disrupted my engagement with the central discussion. However, despite this drawback, I found the book to be highly informative in terms of religious teachings regarding the origins of human suffering. It offers insights into why humanity faces various hardships today and presents what may seem like an unbelievable solution to the problem of evil, suffering, pain, and death: having faith in God and serving Him selflessly. Despite the digressions, the book effectively communicates the importance of establishing an enduring and loving relationship with God.
I gave this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars as it offers a thought-provoking exploration of the Christian theological problem of evil, presenting a compelling solution grounded in love and faith. The author effectively uses biblical references to reinforce key themes and offers valuable insights into the origins of human suffering. Despite some occasional digressions from the main topic, the book remains highly informative and engaging, providing readers with a deeper understanding of fundamental theological principles. I would recommend this book to individuals who are interested in exploring Christian theology, particularly the problem of evil and the nature of humanity's relationship with God. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.
