If you grew up in an environment where scare tactics were used to get you to believe and act the way adults wanted you to, then Richard L. Haight’s book; Unbound Soul: A Visionary Guide to Spiritual Transformation and Enlightenment. This four-part non-fiction book will help you revisit where you came from and where you are going. It is important to have an open mind and remember that there is no religious affiliation as you begin to read Unbound Soul.

In Part 1, Richard shares his personal story as a young boy who was scared into a bible study by being told he would go to Hell if he did not attend. This brought frustration to me as I resonated with it deeply. It is important to allow children to continue to grow with their imagination and inquisitive little minds to learn their own religious or spiritual journey and not threaten to believe one way or another. Through Parts 2, 3, and 4, Richard L Haight provides several ways to dig deeper into oneself with the multiple holistic activities he took part in.

Listening to the audiobook, I was pessimistic it would keep my attention, and I was proved wrong just by reading the introduction. Unbound Soul: A Visionary Guide to Spiritual Transformation and Enlightenment is well-written, comical, inspirational, and thought-provoking. Using worldly spiritual teachings to help the readers understand the importance of focusing on yourself. The goal is not to see what others are getting out of their experiences of meditation or Karate, or how they might perceive your experience. Rather, it is how one can connect with something greater by releasing the stress in your mind, body, and soul.

I give Richard L. Haight a 4 out of 4 rating for Unbound Soul. He created a non-fiction spiritual growth book where the reader is not talked to, but you are experiencing his journey right alongside him. As Richard says himself, “our two greatest fears are that our lives mean nothing and that our lives mean everything.” Come with an open mind, be your own devil’s advocate, and prepare to learn how to differentiate a life of nothing and everything. Are you ready for a revival?
