The book "Niching Up" by Chris Dreyer is honestly a very interesting read. It does the very daunting task of trying to teach people how to build a business, and more importantly it does it in a fun way. While I did have some interest, like many of us do, in starting my own business, this really showed me what it means to be in a business. Taking me through the steps of what exactly does niching up mean, how that can help me, and other helpful tips to anyone, regardless if they own a business or simply want to be more knowledgeable. I think one of the most impressive things about this book was how fun it was to read, which is hard to do when talking about entrepreneurship and basically telling people they have been doing things wrong most of their time. The entire time I was reading it felt like I was having a conversation with Chris Dreyer, with lots of fun insights, and analogies that helped me better understand what point he was trying to make. It did not feel like I was being lectured at, as much as I was listening to someone who was very interested and passionate about wanting to tell as many other people as they want how to be better. I don’t think this book deserves a perfect score, and it is not for grammatical issues or anything like that. I chose the score because the book is not for everyone, while it was an entertaining read that was because I wanted to learn about this. The book has good pacing, but it also expects the reader to have at least a basic knowledge of what they are talking about, and does less of a guiding you through it all and more of a here’s my experience and this is what worked for me. It includes bits of advice but at the end of the day it was someone defending what they do, telling others this is what worked for them and says but it might not work for you. I personally don’t have a lot of experience with this type of book, so maybe it is more common that I make it out to me, but the difference between this and a textbook is the personality of the author which shines through in a very good way.
