I rated this book, "Fasting Firepower," 4 out of 5 stars. The author wrote this book in the style of a reference book, which a reader might refer to often if fasting is a subject they are interested in. The book has a few errors in word choice and some typos, but they are all minimal. Overall, it is a well-written book.
The author uses most of the book to explain how our bodies are made to handle food and what happens when we don't feed our bodies properly.
There is so much information about how the human body functions regarding food, how we heal, and how we stay healthy. The author is so descriptive in explaining the adverse effects of junk food, non-organic food, and my beloved coffee that this reader was overwhelmed. This book will have you rethinking what you put into your body and will have you considering fasting as a way to cleanse your body for optimal function and health.
The author was quite critical of pharmaceutical companies and food distributors. The author describes how pharmaceutical companies and their advertising entities target our minds and stomachs with colorful ads that tout the latest drug and its magical properties to heal what ails us. There is almost no end to the additives and side effects found in drugs that the author includes in these criticisms. He is also specific about our food's chemical agents, dyes, and unnatural additives. The book is chock full of references and documentation of the author's claims.
The second part of the book is all about spiritual fasting. Whether the reader is religious or not, there are instances cited that will, at the very least, make you think. The author uses scriptures from the Bible to reiterate his claim that God commanded fasting. Much of the writing is dedicated to proving the Bible is accurate and that God supernaturally inspired it. Whether the reader believes this premise or not does not negate the knowledge and wisdom imparted by the author concerning fasting, whether for health reasons or your spiritual journey.
The book is not a light read; it is intense, thought-provoking, and very detailed. It is, however, filled with a tremendous amount of research and the author's personal experiences.
This reader would recommend this book to anyone exploring the idea of fasting, regardless of the reason.
