The Unbound Soul by Richard L. Haight is unlike anything I have previously read. I was intrigued by the subject matter of the book, and he presents the information in a very unique way blending his autobiographical story with information and techniques to assist the reader in their own spiritual journey and enlightenment. He breaks the book down into four parts. The first is his personal story beginning in childhood and taking us into his adulthood. In this section he reveals visions and other experiences he has had throughout his life that have encouraged his personal spiritual journey. The second part is the foundational principles where he explains the difference between mind and consciousness, how to tune into consciousness, and provides techniques for meditation. In the third section the reader is taken through methods to improve the health of your body, the importance of student teacher relationships, and spiritual unfoldment. Finally, he ends the book by discussing the soul and spiritual exploration.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality and who is open to ideas outside of traditional religious belief systems. I did find myself struggling to get through parts of this book at times, but I am glad I continued to go back and finish it. Because I struggled at times with staying focused and interested, I would give this book a 3 out of 4.
I listened to the audiobook version so I cannot say if there were any typos in the text version. The audiobook took about 9-10 hours to get through. In chapter three the author talks about his depression and a suicide attempt when he was younger. In chapter four he shares the story of an attempted mugging he experienced as a young adult. Those stories could be potentially triggering to anyone who has experienced either of those or who is sensitive to those topics. He does use a couple of curse words in sharing a personal story in chapter seven. They are used in context to the story and are not outrageous or offensive.
Overall, I think this is worth taking the time to read if you have any interest in spirituality or are looking at exploring your own spirituality. I believe if you are open minded you could get a lot out of this book.
