Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
I just finished reading Snatched Up To Heaven by Jemima and Arvind Paul, and overall I did enjoy the book. The author did a very good job of expressing what her children experienced while at the same time backing it up with biblical facts. The book contains impressive and extensive biblical knowledge that went a long way to explain why the family feels the way they do about the events described in the book. I enjoyed the format of describing the daughter's vision, immediately followed by the author's interpretation and biblical sources. It was easy to follow and understand.
I do feel like the book is written in a more clinical style. It reads more like a research paper than a story. And at times the writing feels almost juvenile. But it doesn't take away from the impact of the story being told.
There were a few editing mistakes that stuck out, like on page 36 it says, "Jesus put lots and lots of chairs when the people did not have place so they could all sit down and eat." It should say "when the people did not have a place." Also on page 36 it says, "In another vision, Deepika had a purple bed with a golden pillow, and her sister had pink bed with a silver pillow." It should say "her sister had a pink bed with a silver pillow." On page 69 it says, "Priyanka had terrible stomach ache whenever she shared about her visions of hell." It should say "had a terrible stomach ache."
Personally I did not agree with much of the girl's depictions of what life in heaven supposedly looks like. There were specific examples given that do not align with what I have learned through years of Bible study. But for me, that does not take away from the main message that I believe the author is trying to get across. However I did feel like the chapter that focused so heavily against Halloween was out of place, and strayed a little too far away from the main points of the rest of the book. It just felt unnecessary to focus so heavily on the author's opinion of a holiday in the middle of descriptions of dreams of heaven and hell. It took away from the flow and continuity of the rest of the book.
Overall I found the book to be a very interesting read. Even if I don't personally agree with all of the interpretations and opinions expressed in the book, it did not make the story any less enjoyable for me to read. I have respect for the author having the courage to write her family's story, and to share her heart and her faith so publicly.
