Review of The Warrior's Meditation
Have you tried meditating? How did you feel after doing it? Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and pay attention to your surroundings. What are you smelling, hearing, or feeling? Reading The Warrior’s Meditation by Richard L. Haight might change your perspective on meditating and allow you to embark on a journey of awareness.
This is an interesting and educational book. The author started meditating as a teenager and, for the past thirty years, has been learning and improving his abilities, as well as teaching and sharing them. The author’s meditation technique simulates those that Samurais could have used, allowing those who achieve it to perfectly incorporate it into everyday life without side effects like fainting. While this is a technique that must be practiced and is not easy to achieve, those who understand hard work and perseverance might be able to meditate while walking, working, or doing everyday activities.
Before reading this book, I was convinced I was never going to be able to meditate; I lacked the concentration, the comfortable posture, or the perseverance, but after following some of the guided meditations the book had and understanding my senses and perceptions, I realized I could eventually improve my skills. Throughout the book, the author explains different techniques and why some people feel like they cannot meditate. He also encourages the reader (or anyone wanting to meditate) to keep trying and not feel frustrated if they do not feel changes after their first meditation session. The author included some demonstrative videos that will help everyone understand the author’s explanations and the overall experience. The author gives suggestions on how to develop flexibility to enrich the meditation, deal with mental resistance or perfectionism, and some postures and terminology. He also shares some personal experiences of how, because of his abilities, he was able to escape dangerous situations.
There is nothing negative I can say about The Warrior’s Meditation, this is an educational, inspirational, and helpful book that everyone will enjoy. While the author's focus was to help the reader become aware and learn new meditation techniques, this book also teaches about the human body. Because of everything I have said, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The book is professionally edited, as I only found one minor mistake that did not affect my reading experience.
I recommend this book to adults suffering from stress or anxiety. I also recommend it to anyone trying to improve their meditation skills or those who wish to be aware of their surroundings. This book will not change your life, bring awareness, or help you meditate unless you actively work for it, but is an incredible starting point.
