Review of Surviving the Business of Healthcare
The book Surviving the Business of Healthcare written by Barbara Galutia is a fantastic resource for anyone who is working within the healthcare field in the United States, as well as anyone interested in working in healthcare. The author, Barbara Galutia, has worked as a physician assistant for many years. She provided lots of useful knowledge about the United States healthcare system that was based on her vast experience in the field. She provided fantastic insight into the pitfalls of the healthcare system, and provided encouragement to readers about the importance of advocating for themselves within the field to maintain their own health and well-being. The author also discussed the importance of finding a healthcare professional who is open to fully hearing and expressing an understanding of our personal needs as healthcare professionals.
The book starts off with the retelling of the authors life. She discussed how her father was one of two physicians who worked in her hometown. Her father was well known to everyone within her community, and using her father as an example, she was able to adequately contrast and compare her family's experience with small-town healthcare to today's large healthcare business. I found it interesting that she also included topics like medical costs and services available for patients. Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I liked how the author was able to portray her connection to me on a more intimate level since she used language that is more universal and understandable than medical jargon typically associated with the field.
There wasn't anything that I disliked about this book. As someone who is aspiring to work in the medical field, this book provided lots of valuable information to me. I also did not find any grammatical errors or typos within the book. This is a testament to the exceptional editing completed prior to the book being published.
I would rate this book five out of five stars for all of the reasons I stated above. This book was one of the most helpful books I have read regarding information on the health care system. Additionally, even though the book is short, I felt it contained a lot of valuable content. I will definitely be rereading this in the future.
I would recommend this book to any readers who are currently working in the healthcare field, as well as any readers who were interested in working in the healthcare field.
