Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
One night, Priyanka and Deepika find themselves being carried up to heaven. In the book Snatched Up to Heaven, their parents retell the hopeful stories of their children's trips to heaven and hell.
The main focus of the book is the telling of the children's journey and what they encountered, accompanied by facts from the Bible. Though only directed at one special group of people, Christians, it can be understood by most people because of the many facts represented. This makes the book easier to follow, even if you're not a Christian. The language didn't strike me as anything special or remarkable; it's certainly not a literary masterpiece, but if you're looking for a quick read, this book is the way to go. The language is more on the simpler side; it's easy to comprehend, which makes this an easy read for both children and adults. One thing I enjoyed is the fact that the book is divided into two parts: heaven and hell. This makes it so much easier to follow and comprehend.
The book doesn't have a great layout and feels kind of thrown together or cramped. One annoying thing is the recessive use of facts and references to the Bible, which makes the book feel really repetitive. Half of it just contains quotes, and the author uses the same kind of sentence all of the time. One example is "I was amazed," followed by "when Priyanka said this or that." This sentence shows up all of the time with some small differences, mainly changing "amazed" to "blown away" or "awestruck." This repetitiveness is something that brings the rating of the book down, in my opinion. The book is also quite short and doesn't contain very much content. It was over before you knew it, and it fell quite short.
The book gets a 3/5 because it was simply not very interesting. It was just average. It's not bad, but it's not good. Nothing struck me as amazing, and the language wasn't the best. I didn't feel anything while reading. It's mostly directed towards Christian children, which excuses the easy and simple language, but for someone who's neither a Christian nor a child, this was simply not a satisfying read. Which is obvious, but I have enjoyed religious books in the past. This was just a boring book. One thing that brings the rating up is the fact that you can feel the love the parents have for their children. This makes the book a bit more enjoyable, as you can at least feel how they feel.
In the end, this book is for children, and children do not care whether the book is repetitive or not. So this book is a good starting point if you want to teach your children the way of Christianity. This brings the rating up a tad bit. I would not recommend this to someone who is not religious or who's not interested in these kinds of things.
