A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah tells the story of his lifelong quest to be a force for peace. As a young man in colonized Algeria, he witnessed firsthand the racism and oppression by the French colonizers. This experience shaped his belief in fighting for justice and equality as he traveled to France to pursue medicine. While there, he joined the Algerian Liberation Front, which brought him a myriad of troubles, but that did not deter him from his ambition. Dr. Berrah was a brilliant man academically. Due to his intellect, he was offered a scholarship to study in America. While there, he pioneered a breakthrough in biological research, which earned him a spot in the American Men of Science. Despite all these achievements, he did not forget the atrocities his fellow Algerians faced. He, therefore, chose to leave everything behind and began a mission to bring peace wherever he went. This book tells the story of Dr. Berrah as he pursued peace, trying to make the world a better place.

The book is written from the first-person account. It starts with praise from Dr. Berrah's acquaintances. They hold him in high esteem and regard his contribution to society as something to reckon with. We are then introduced to Dr. Berrah as he gives us a personal account of his life's work. He begins from the time he was a student facing racism in colonized Algeria to becoming a champion of change later. It is interesting to note that Dr. Berrah's tone does not have any indication of wrath as one would expect. He writes in a manner that makes you sense peace instead of vexation. This was very interesting to me. He is not writing this book with bitterness but rather from a place of wanting to educate the masses about the price some people had to pay for freedom.

What I loved about the book was its detailed account of scenery. The author took time to lay a background picture of what the book is all about. Even though politics isn't my cup of tea, this book made me look at the topic differently. It played a big role in shedding light on the struggle for independence and the price one had to pay for freedom. One other thing I loved about the book was Dr. Berrah's faith. Even though he was a Muslim, he married a Christian woman. This may seem like a perfect backdrop for conflict and hatred in a marriage. Instead, this inspiring book shows how easy it can be to love and live in harmony, regardless of our differences.

There is nothing I did not like about this book. The book is exceptionally well edited. This can make a good study material as it has a lot of relevant information about political history. This is a masterpiece that future generations may use to study history.

I rate this book 5 out of 5. I recommend this book to anyone who loves reading autobiographies. However, those not so keen on politics should reconsider as it may come off as boring.
