In A Dream For Peace, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah recounts his remarkable journey as a liberation fighter seeking Algeria's independence, emphasizing the need for global harmony in our interconnected world. Amid prevailing disputes, this book underscores the urgent call for lasting peace. Dr. Berrah's profound insights into conflict resolution stem from his dual roles as a diplomat and a freedom fighter during Algeria's struggle. Born in Ain Beida, northeastern Algeria, under French annexation, Berrah's early life was marked by adversity.

Raised by his mother after his father's death, he encountered racism firsthand in an education system tainted by discrimination. His activism began when he was denied recognition by the mayor due to his ethnicity. As a medical student, he faced discrimination but found solidarity among fellow Muslim peers, prompting his involvement in anti-colonial groups. Throughout his life, beyond advocating for Algeria's independence, Berrah ardently envisioned a peaceful world. This vision led him through diverse roles—from student activist to healthcare minister, diplomatic advisor, and close counsellor to a president—each reflecting his unwavering commitment to peace and progress.

This remarkable book stands out by vividly depicting a man of unwavering beliefs. What intrigued me most was the patriotic dedication and camaraderie among the young activists within its pages. While many youths typically pursue leisure and entertainment, these individuals were fervently fighting for their homeland's freedom. One of them recounted their heroic endeavours to Ghoulem, expressing, "Our love for our motherland fueled us; we were prepared to sacrifice our lives for independence." The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.

There wasn't much to dislike about this book apart from the overwhelming inclusion of numerous anti-colonial association names and acronyms, which occasionally made it challenging to follow and detracted from the reading experience. Nonetheless, this book provides a compelling glimpse into the life of an extraordinarily knowledgeable individual. This book is recommended for history enthusiasts, social activists, students of political science, and anyone seeking inspiration from the gripping story of an individual's fight for independence and peace amidst adversity.

The narrative powerfully captures the sacrifices and dedication of the protagonist and fellow activists, providing an inspiring and deeply moving insight into the struggle for freedom. Despite the intricate inclusion of numerous anti-colonial association names and acronyms, these details add depth to the story, enriching the reader's understanding of the historical context. Overall, the book's compelling depiction of strong convictions, patriotic fervour, and the relentless pursuit of a better world makes it an invaluable and enlightening read, deserving of the highest rating.
