What if a decade-long fear can be destroyed in 28 minutes? Kalliope Barlis demonstrates how exactly it can be done in Phobia Relief. It is a short book of about 80 pages, divided into three sections. Within these pages, the author illustrates how to change our thought processes and rewrite them so that we can face our long-drawn fears or phobias.

Barlis states that some have more than enough time to spare, and so they fill it with fears. They spend their time focusing on nebulous fears and the psychology behind their predicament. In so doing, they forget to reach their life’s purpose. In Phobia Relief, Barlis does not focus on the past. Rather, she focuses on the future and on how to neutralize fear by rewiring the pre-existing thought process. Barlis also encourages the readers to replace fear with positive habits that will drive us toward achieving our purpose.

I loved that the author does not leave her readers in a tug-of-war to find their purpose. She has suggested questions that will help the readers find their purpose. Moreover, the book contains detailed questionnaires along with every chapter. These questions help the readers follow the book's methods without difficulty.

I found the methods used by Barlis to be novel and effective. She teaches us how to blink, shrink, or spin our fears away. Barlis has an acute sense of what works and what doesn’t. She claims that her methods have been used by numerous clients successfully. In the third section of the book, she provides the transcript of a session with her client to support her claim and illustrate the modus operandi.

Phobia Relief is an informative book sprinkled with humor. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. It was professionally edited with a precise, to-the-point writing style. I recommend Phobia Relief to those who are constrained by fears and phobias and also to anyone who wants to learn how to rewire their thinking and eventually rewire their actions.
