Reading Phobia Relief taught me to see phobias in an entirely new way. Before reading this book, I would instantly discount it when people told me they had a phobia, however after reading this book I can now see where phobia can be crippling to people if not dealt with. The author's knowledge on this subject and the ease of her conveying the information is quite masterful.
I found it incredibly helpful that the author has broken down the steps and processes by which to free yourself from a fear or phobia. It made the process seem much more approachable and less overwhelming. I especially liked the exercises she gave at the end of the chapters. Having the steps, along with the comparison of real-life examples, added clarity and made the issue easy to understand.
I would have enjoyed reading more narratives from her daily clients. The young client with the scary boss was interesting due to the underlying issue which was the fear of the boss rather than the acne. The backward thought pattern was amazing! I tried it on a few areas I have anxiety with and it was very helpful. If the author had included cases for each exercise related to real-life events I feel it would have made the process smoother to understand.
I would rate this book a solid three. At first glance, one may find the book dry and tedious yet, with perseverance the knowledge imparted to one can not be overlooked. While dry in places, the author does a masterful job of moving the book along and dropping just enough stories to keep one's attention from wandering too far. I would read any further books by this author without hesitation. If one has a friend or family member with a fear or phobia this is a must-read for you.
