In his memoir, A Dream for Peace, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah describes his experiences as a peace activist, diplomat, and liberation warrior. Berrah, who was born in Algeria in 1938, was active in the country's independence movement from a young age. Following the war, he pursued medical studies in France and the US. He worked as a professor at the Yale School of Medicine before entering the diplomatic service.

Berrah represented Algeria as a diplomat for many years, traveling to several nations. Additionally, he served as a special peace and security counselor to the president of Côte d'Ivoire. Berrah offers his thoughts on what leads to war and how difficult it is to bring about peace in his book. He talks about his own experiences and trying to bring peace to crises in the Middle East and Africa.

Berrah makes a case for peace in his book. He contends that peace is a positive condition defined by justice, equality, and human rights rather than just the absence of conflict. In addition, he thinks that even in the most trying situations, peace is achievable. I like that Berrah's work makes the important point that communication is necessary to foster peace. He contends that even if we find the opinions of people who disagree with us repugnant, we nevertheless need to be open to listening to them and learning from them. Additionally, he thinks that we need to be open to making concessions and locating common ground.

Another important takeaway from Berrah's book is that we are all accountable for maintaining peace. He contends that each of us may contribute to creating a more peaceful world. We may accomplish this by becoming knowledgeable about the factors that lead to violence, trying to spread tolerance and understanding, and lending our support to groups that are promoting peace. I recommend it to those who want to become activists or venture into politics.

This book will encourage you to take action toward a more peaceful world and will give you hope. The book was long. It made it slow-paced at times, and comprehension became harder. I didn't like that. I also didn't like that the book was too objective. It's obvious that Berrah is enthusiastic about promoting peace, yet his writings are biased. He refuses to acknowledge his shortcomings. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I found no grammatical errors, indicating that it was well-edited.
