Review of Thriving in the Storm
I am thankful that I was able to read this amazing book. I have learned a lot from the author, the book has become my go-to in terms of seeking advice. Though am not a psychologist, I totally agree that childhood experiences shape us into who we become as adults. The author's upbringing in the hands of an abusive father played a fundamental role in who he became. Thankfully, his life turned out for the better though it could have turned out either way. It was the ability to turn lemons into lemonade( positive thinking) that enabled him to become an achiever.
The exercises in between the chapters are very helpful, they enable the reader to pause and ponder about life's ups and downs, the many hurts and obstacles we tend to sweep under the rug and pretend like they don't exist. Personally, I found the exercises practical and instrumental in solving life's challenges. During the author's toughest trials, he was able to reinvent himself to become better by focusing on the positive rather than the negative.
The most valuable lesson I have learned from reading this book is how to set goals and divide them into mini-goals and tasks that I can focus on daily. This is definitely one of the many habits I endeavor to acquire thanks to the authors wisdom. Thriving in the storm is truelly a gem that everyone should read.

“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.” ― Madeline Miller, The Song of Achilles
