Review of Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless
Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless is a book by Mitzi Perdue. You may have seen Mark's name before; he wrote the Chicken Soup series of self-help books. Interestingly or maybe ironically, the author/biographer [Mitzi Perdue] also has a well known chicken connection! This is Mark's own story, as told by an experienced biographer. This is an account of how he got where he is by believing in himself. This is a 4 out of 4-star review for this impressive biography and accounting of how Mark lived his life, always moving forward when he had misadventures and setbacks. Every life has moments where things are not going well, and Mitzi tells us how Mark got past these moments in his own life, and how he continued to focus on the big picture and progress.
The first word that comes to my mind when I think about Mark's story is relentless. This is very close to a first-hand account of a man who pushed himself to success. He got where he is by believing in himself. I was concerned at first that the book would be a bit Mark-congratulatory and Mark-promoting. I was quickly disavowed of that notion; I think Mark's genuine goal with his books and his life is to help others. The goal of this book is to gain insight into what made Mark Victor Hansen work. Mark talks a lot about force of will, and how he acquired it and used it to his advantage. I think this is an excellent book for those who seek to understand the steps individuals can take to improve their position in life. Believing in yourself is always the first step. Mark offers concrete thoughts to help others achieve their own goals and dreams in his books and seminars. This book provides details on the steps Mark takes and on how to get from here to there. The end of each chapter provides a review of the learning goals and the theory behind them. The book provides clear details on the concepts of self-reliance and self determination as the foundations of success. In the book, Mitzi makes clear that a foundational concept behind Marks's success, is the planning and the execution required, not just big ideas, but big work to achieve the goals. I think the emphasis on the work required is missing in other books of this type, a clear advantage of this book. A realistic picture of the effort individuals need to take to achieve their dreams is really a requirement for true long term goal attainment.
The editing on this book is impeccable. I was incredibly impressed by the flawlessness of the Kindle version I read!
The language is suitable for all ages, with nothing inappropriate. You won't regret this book, get it and absorb the excellent advice!
