Purpose is a light-hearted and welcoming guide that promises to find our purpose in life and translate it into a tool for building meaningful communities around that purpose. The playful tone adds to the anecdotal perspectives and first hand experiences of the author as they describe their own journey leading to the creation of this book.

The first section is all about defining what the terms 'purpose' and 'community' mean, specifically within the framework of channelling the reader's time, talents, energy and focus into having an impact in the world. There are also challenges within the sub-chapters in the form of written exercises. I am on day three of the 'Purpose 30' challenge, and even though it may be hard to answer the questions initially I have found it to be an insightful exercise by the end of it each time. It forces the reader to think more deeply about the information they've taken it and be able to actively apply it to their own situations.

"Purpose thrives in community" is the main takeaway from the second section. When you start to understand your own purpose better, the book explores how this purpose can be achieved through a collective effort. While there is an understanding that things may take practice over time to really stick, the author emphasises how we shouldn't let pre-existing factors and conditions become permanent obstacles that stand in the way of our life goals. Social media is not the only place where you can make an impact - the importance of media consciousness is stressed here - but being able to connect to other people has never been easier than it is now.

What I found most beneficial from the third section was an appreciation for the core community that surrounds me, and how it gives people the opportunity to belong to something that is bigger than ourselves. There was also a lot of conversation about how you can make a digital community, and this was the only downfall of the book for me because it didn't feel as accessible for someone that may approach this book as a newcomer. This is why the rating on this review ended up as a 3 out of 5.

Overall, Purpose by Gina Bianchini was an interesting read, because it utilised the personal experiences of the author and other success stories to reject the common mindset that not everyone can successfully find or achieve their life's purpose.
