Gina Bianchini has set out to help you achieve greater things in life with her book Purpose. As someone who spent my entire life struggling to find my purpose, I was immediately drawn to the title and promise of this book. I have never been one to read inspirational self-help books or non-fiction in general, so from the beginning, I approached this book with a certain level of skepticism.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The book was very well-edited. I appreciated the structure of the chapters - short and easy to read, and with the lack of mistakes, it was clear a lot of care went into this book; the author's sympathetic and somewhat informal voice is what differentiated Purpose from other books of its kind for me. Reading this book felt like I was in the room listening to Ms. Bianchini giving a presentation in person.
Ms. Bianchini has a very clear idea of what she wants to do and how she wants to draw the reader in. Her focus on community is very prevalent throughout the whole book. In my opinion, her insertion of personal stories, whether it be her own or someone else's, gave this book exactly what was needed - proof that it can work. I also appreciated how detailed the step-by-step guide was, it provided guidance for the whole journey for one's purpose. Most of the steps were supported by examples which made them even more helpful and believable.
However, I must mention the so-called elephant in the room. Purpose is a well-written and personal advertisement for Ms. Bianchini's platform. This doesn't necessarily harm the book, as there is never any explicit obligation to use their services. For me however, it cheaped the experience a little bit with the very specific vocabulary used to describe the experience and the feeling that one's success in finding and realizing their Future Story depends on using this platform.
Overall, I would give this book a 4/5. It is an easy read and definitely brings some new insight into your life. It does fulfill the promise of being a guidebook and provides innovative tools to realize your potential. And to top it all off, Ms. Bianchini's voice is warm and welcoming, which inspires you to actually want to work on your future.
