When you do something that no one else is doing, you stand out. This is the primary point Chris Dreyer drives home in Niching Up. According to Dreyer, niching has more advantages than disadvantages and just as it is important to know that, it is imperative to acknowledge that niching comes with its own set of challenges and limitations. While having a smaller market, waste, competition, and a lack of diversity are some of the cons of niching, Dreyer leaves it to the reader to make an informed decision regarding certain factors themselves as to whether they are a con or a pro, namely the point about the industry being ripe for innovation and disruption.
An enriching aspect of the book is the wide array and range of examples of people from different walks of life, sports, Michael Jordan, Automobile industry Henry Ford, Arts, Samuel. Jackson Star wars. The list is pretty exhaustive.
From the writer’s point of view, before niching, it is imperative to get as much experience as one can to identify the best suited for you. The four key points to be successful in a niche are experience, passion, profit, and data.
