Snatched Up To Heaven by Jemima and Arvind Paul is a book that sticks with you. I would read a bit and then do other things but found myself thinking about it between readings. The book centers around the authors’ daughters’ dreams (or visions) about Heaven and Hell. While the author does not censor or alter the girls’ revelations about their dreams, she does interpret them and correlates the girls’ dreams / visions with scriptures from the Bible. The way the book is written makes it read like a bible study, but it is fun to read the way the girls describe their dreams.

There seems to be some influence from images they may have seen in church or depicted in children’s bible study; in their description of Jesus with the red sash, angels dressed in white in Heaven, and in Hell it is hot and there is fire everywhere and everyone is sad. Everyone incorporates what they know or things they have seen in their dreams, but it was intriguing to read how detailed the girls were about certain things they saw or experienced in Heaven and Hell. For example, the gold combs brushed through their hair and how everything sparkled and shimmered in Heaven and the “worm cake, slimy frog juice, and dead-ants cake” fed to those in Hell.

I like that the author takes her children seriously and it may be because of the subject matter and that the authors / parents are religious, but I appreciate that they seemed to have sat down and really listened to the girls. A negative aspect to this book, in my opinion, is that the author’s take on the Bible seems to be fundamentalist and as such feels a bit exclusive to those with different or more “relaxed” beliefs.

Overall, this book leaves a feel-good feeling in your heart and serves as a reminder to try to be a good person. The line that stuck with me most was “In heaven, people don’t fight with each other like they do in earth.”

I give this book a 3/5 because of the evangelical nature and writing style of the book.
