I would say that this book is an example of what to do before it is too late. The author Shirley Rose’s memoir uses her real-life experience to warn others of ‘red flags’ in relationships. The real-life experience helps the readers not feel so alone if they have lived in a similar situation and provides them with the hope of escaping their equally terrible situations. I would give the book a 3/4 star or a 4/5. While it was a good book there were times when I felt like I was repeat reading which can be a bit annoying for some readers. Overall, I did not notice any grammar issues with the book. There were paragraphs that were extremely well written within the book.
Mrs. Rose’s journey allows others in similar situations to hope for a better outcome for themselves as well as helping them know that it only gets worse if they stay. Abuse is a terrible thing that unfortunately affects too many women and men and survivor's stories such as this one help those that are still facing their abusers to hopefully say enough is enough and walk away. Real-life stories like this one are worth sharing.
Overall, I found this a good read. I would suggest going more in-depth into some of the situations for the readers to really grasp the emotions and importance of the message she is trying to send. We understand the situation and the abuse that is happening but not the depth of the emotional trauma that she went through, which can really help the readers connect to the story. Mrs. Rose sends an important message to the readers and to women about how abusers can affect your life and how difficult it can be to get away from them when you finally realize what is happening.
