There and Back There Again by Andy Alsup shows us the internal fight between the author and the voices around him trying to manage his life, his will and his mind. The story is about a constant battle of authority that will take you through the feelings and deepest self of the author.

You will get his confusion, his worries, and thoughts on more than one topic, but he has one in particular, the value of privacy and the importance of protecting it from intruders, intruders from high political range and important people from the government that will give him threats, mind games, cruel ideas, and stressful interrogations with one purpose only: have full control over him.

Throughout the story, we find pieces to the main idea, but what I didn't like was that even if they are fitting together to find the entire picture, for more than one occasion, it was confusing to follow them. The way the author gives us the perspective that he is always in control, but giving repetitive chapters of high stress and struggle made me wonder the sense of the whole reading.

I liked the way he comes back and forward from his mind to the external world to link topics like politics, law, betrayal, mental illness, deception, and inner conflict.

I give this book a ranking of 3 out of 5 points because I didn't submerge deeply in the story due to its various moments of repetition and predictiveness. Also, the second half of the book is about a variety of topics, having ideas from Edgar Allan Poe, poems, and biblical reference that are hard to link with the purpose of the author and the story.

Here we have a reading for people interested in the mind and inner conflict of a man that has everything in control, but has one major problem in his life, the struggle with persons and their voices that constantly want to manage his will.
