Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
Mankind has, since times immemorial, endeavored to solve the profound mysteries of life, death and beyond, and “God”. This book is a charming, yet simplified narrative by a mother, through her innocent children’s dreams about unraveling these deep mysteries, for the esteemed readers.
This book starts with how the Authors Jemima and Arvind Paul’s two small daughters Priyanka and Deepika, who are just four and two years old, travel to heaven in their series of dreams, carried by Angels, Jesus and God and pushed by the wind i.e. the Holy Spirit. All through the book, the author describes vividly, the Girls' experiences and interprets these, for the better understanding of the readers’, by validating these against the actual quotes from the scriptures.
As we all know, children have been given the highest places of honor in God’s kingdom because they are pure, innocent and devoid of the vices of adults like ambition, pride, deceit, hypocrisy, and haughtiness. Likewise, the author is convinced her daughters’ testimonies are not just an outcome of their hyperactive imaginations; rather they have been empowered by the Holy Spirit to receive these divine revelations.
Through their experiences the author explains that in Heaven, there would be no sorrows, no more death or mourning or crying or pain, and all our past troubles will be forgotten. The people will be kind, gentle and caring for each other and loving to animals and love God. Thus she emphasizes that in life also, we should rise up in faith, trust in God and follow the path of righteousness, caring for the weak and weary, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving to the poor, and showing compassion towards the needs of others. All these good deeds will surely lead us to Heaven in eternity.
The Hell, on the other hand has been portrayed, in the book, as a horrible place where people are thirsty, hungry, suffering and ill and so much in pain that even Jesus cries on seeing their misery. Also as per the scriptures this destiny befalls on people in after-life, when they are non-believers and lead a sinful, immoral life. But all is not lost for the evil, and if they confess their sins, and repent truthfully, then God who is faithful and just, will forgive their sins and purify them from all unrighteousness.
The Author is of the belief, that sharing Jesus with others, who do not know him, is the duty of every good Christian.
Thus, this book is about the glory of God and also to prepare us for our eternal destiny. By explaining how to lead our earthly life, and what fate awaits us all, after death and the importance of faith, of belief, of doing good deeds in life, the author persuades us to lead a righteous life, so that we end up in heaven, in eternity.
