I was invited to review this book , the sort of book that I usually steer clear of and having read it I can see why I usually avoid these types of books. I felt that I was back in university having to trawl through an academic textbook because my tutor was going to ask me questions on it during a seminar. Light bedtime reading it isn't.
It seemed to take an age for the writer to get to the main thrust of the book which apparently is about how one can achieve one's purpose in life by forming a community through the use of social media tools.
There is no doubting that Gina Bianchini knows how to write professionally and in a scholarly manner and I wouldn't be surprised if this book appears on academic course reading lists on future business studies courses in various universities around the world.
Two things did positively resonate with me though in relation to this book.I really appreciate and admire her belief in community. I was a teenager growing up during the poisonous Thatcher years in a South Wales mining community, a community like many others which was decimated by Thatcher's economic policies. She was on record as saying that there was no such thing as a community. Hail Gina for believing otherwise.
The second thing that I agreed with , was Gina's belief that social media can be used as a positive mechanism rather than just a tool for spitting out poisonous vitriol.
The book will appeal to entrepreneurs and universities, it just wasn't for me.
I would rate it 3 out of 5.
