I deliberately chose this book because I have no religious beliefs but I am intrigued by the way religion and faith can impact on people's lives. This book appealed to me because it is written through the eyes of children, their dreams and visions. Children tend to say it as it is.
However, the children's dreams/visions àre then interpreted by the parents who strive to " find" passages in the Bible to confirm that the children's accounts of heaven and hell were real. If one was being cynical, it isn't too difficult to find and interpret passages from the Bible and make them "fit" the visions and then declare that one's children have seen heaven and hell. If children are brought up in an environment where they are surrounded by religion then its no real surprise that the children may dream about heaven and hell.
The book also reinforces the prejudiced nature of God, homosexuality is seen as a sin, " you will be sent to hell"!!!
The book hasn't changed my atheist views but saying that, I still think that it is an intriguing book and I would recommend it to anyone who believes in the Bible but I would also recommend it to sceptics like myself . It is well written , I like the way that the authors have tried to validate their children's dreams and visions by quoting passages from the Bible and to try and substantiate their claims.
