Phobia - Relief by Kalliope Barlis

Excellent and concise to read!

This is an excellent, concise book on ways to alter thought patterns using imagination, thereby getting rid of irrational fears. The popular NLP ( Neuro Linguistic Programming) theory is the basis of this book. The book's contents are on point without many technical psychological terms for a layperson to understand and use.

The book felt very light and satisfying to read, Not like some ultra-motivation exaggerations and advice. The contents provide Practical insights. For those people who love to finish fast, this is only 80 pages so it is a quick read yet very informative and useful.

This is overall a wonderful book for anyone to get introduced themselves to the popular NLP practice. Wonderful work from the author.

Kalliope uses the word "change work" when she had worked on people's thoughts to get rid of their fears. She guides us fully into her change work techniques, for us to explore our thought patterns and fears. She gives exercises and step-by-step guides between chapters to work and explore the techniques. These steps are so simple and easy that one might doubt if they can work at all. It is a chance for anyone to test it themselves.

There is an example vignette on a client who was suffering from clown phobia and how she cured her phobia in a session. This was a very interesting step-by-step description. It is a direct dialogue of a therapy session. One could feel the change for real that has happened to the client, through that description. The contents are simple, yet there could have been a few more examples of direct therapy session dialogues for an even deeper understanding of the process. But it is still fine and enough.
