I have been reading a lot of memoirs in recent times. However, this one is astounding. It is both educational and inspiring. There are a few memoirs that could leave me in awe. A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is one memoir I will not forget for a long time.

Dr. Ghoulem Berrah contributed to his hometown, nation (Algeria), Africa, and humanity at large. He was born in Aïn Beïda, Algeria. He grew up here and learned his culture. He was given over to fighting injustice and seeking peace at a very young age. He pushed for and fought for Algeria’s independence and succeeded. He was also privileged to get a scholarship to further his education abroad. His achievements in the political world are amazing. He was a close friend of President Houphouet-Boigny of the Ivory Coast and offered great help and assistance to him while he was still in power. His discovery in the medical world also earned him more credits and accolades. This memoir also talks about his emotional life.

The positive aspects of this book are numerous. I am amazed at the kind of man Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was. His great achievements are inspiring. I love his personality. I learned a lot of lessons from his life and experience. The dogged and selfless attitude he had made me want to work on myself to become a better person. An example was the commitment he showed to his friends in prison. Another thing worthy of appreciation in this book is the author’s style of writing. It was easy to relate to. There was no use of unnecessary jargon or ambiguous words. Another thing I admire about Dr. Berrah is his respect for other people’s religions. He never disregarded or despised people who had a different religious view. Some of the themes featured in this book include freedom, resilience, peace, politics, and diplomacy.

It is important to state that I noticed a few typographical and grammatical errors in this book while reading. However, these errors did not distract me from enjoying the book. It was professionally edited. There is nothing I dislike about this book.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This is because of the inspiring personality of the author and the numerous lessons I learned from this book. I recommend this book to fans of historical memoirs. People interested in learning about diplomacy will also enjoy this book.
