It is so amazing to see that a young man's life can quickly turn into something phenomenal given the opportunities the author, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, had in his time. A Dream For Peace is an autobiography that captures the life and times of one of Africa's greatest diplomats, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. It begins with his early years, when he was born into a Muslim family in Algeria. Then it delves into his education, young adult years, political activism, personal challenges, and ultimately his pursuit of global peace.

One aspect that truly resonated with me was the author's unwavering love for his homeland. Even as a medical student, he exhibited remarkable courage by actively engaging in the fight against colonial oppression. His willingness to endure imprisonment for the cause of freedom showcases his dedication to his country and his people. Throughout his tumultuous journey at the time, Dr. Berrah's discipline and tolerance shone as guiding lights, portraying him as an exemplar of leadership in diverse cultural contexts.

Dr. Berrah's life is a true testament that Muslims and Christians, and by extension, any other religion, can live together in peace. He was a Muslim, and his marriage to Titi, a devout Catholic Christian woman, despite their childlessness, is nothing but fascinating.

The book has seventeen extensively written chapters with photographs. This inclusion of photographs alongside the narrative offers readers a tangible connection to the events, bridging the gap between history and the present day. Dr. Berrah lived a fulfilled life, by my reckoning. Also, his story shows that education is one of the best routes to an African child's success in life.

However, as much as the book captivates, its length can be a double-edged sword. While the extensive content provides a comprehensive view of Dr. Berrah's life, I soon became anxious for the end. Nonetheless, the meticulous editing and singular error attest to the professionalism that went into its production. The only errors I found were too minor to detract from my enjoyment of the book. It is still quite worthy of a perfect 5 out of 5 stars rating.

It is a must-read for anyone seeking inspiration from the life of a visionary leader who dedicated his life to fostering peace and understanding among nations. Particularly, West African leaders, including Nigerian leaders, should read this book. It is also good for young Africans who are into politics.
