Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace is Dr. Ghoulem Berrah’s memoir. In this book, he tells us how he lived his life and what led him to become an activist for peace. He was born when Algeria was still under France’s rule. Because of that, the French saw the Algerians as second-class citizens. As fate would have it, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah would become one of the people who fought for Algeria’s freedom. He fought alongside men and women of courage to see his people free. He also went on to become a man that nations listened to because they knew he knew how to broker peace. Read A Dream For Peace to find out how Dr. Ghoulem Berrah managed to bring peace between countries that had been enemies for a long time.
I heard so much about Dr. Ghoulem Berrah from my father when I was still a child. He told me of his escapades and successes around the world. There is no way you will mention Algeria’s fight for freedom from colonialism without his name coming up. That was why I decided to read this book when I came across it.
Now, let me tell you about the book. A Dream For Peace was written beautifully. I got to see what life was like back then and the sacrifices every person the author worked with had to make to realize the dream of freedom and peace. One person whom Dr. Ghoulem Berrah talked about so fondly was President Houphouët-Boigny, the former president of the Ivory Coast. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was both his adviser and his friend. Together, they toured the world, from the Ivory Coast to Palestine and Israel, to have peace talks with world leaders. Their conversations about Africa warmed my heart and made me cry several times. They believed the continent could be developed, but that would never happen as long as the people remained at war with themselves.
A Dream For Peace filled me with the determination to be good to all humans. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah made it clear in the book that we can only live well in harmony when we humans do away with our selfishness and desire to be wicked. That is one of many lessons I gleaned from him in this book. The lessons are what I liked most.
Apart from the sacrifices and experiences he shared with me in this book, I liked another thing about it. I loved that it had no negative aspects. It took me a while to finish reading it, but I never got tired of reading it. The stories kept me interested, and the lessons made me determined to finish the book. Despite its length, A Dream For Peace was edited excellently. There was no error in it. It also did not have negative aspects. Because I liked everything about it, I want to give it an excellent rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
If you want a book that will inspire you to seek peace in everything you do, please read A Dream For Peace. I recommend it to you because it offers advice on how to be at peace with most men. France is currently trending in the news because Niger, their former colony, has ousted them. If you are simply interested in reading about a former colony of France that fought against their master’s rule, you should read this. The story of how Algeria got its freedom is an interesting one.
