The subject of Poppy Mortimer's book, 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir, is her twenty-year span of dating experiences. She set out on a romantic trip from her native England. She eventually runs into a few "characters" which make you wonder if these men are real. A few of her meetups were in person, but most were through online dating. She next makes her way to Los Angeles, where the story continues, before returning to Australia. She described each date as being different and hilarious. Several of these dates were startling and downright odd!

Her candor and the funny descriptions of each date she had are two things I loved about this book. Even the titles she gave them to describe each dating experience to the reader were hilarious. You had the impression that you were there, witnessing the events firsthand thanks to her detailed descriptions. Like her memories of date #17, whom she dubbed Mr. Bat Cave, and the odor she experienced when in his vicinity and unsure where it was coming from. Or her account of the abrupt weather change before date #18 with Mr. Camel Lover.

Her reflections on herself and the lessons she learnt from each date also caught my attention. She also praised her mother and included her input. There isn't anything about the book that I could think of that I didn't like. I like reading books with a lighter side, therefore it was easy for me to concentrate while I went through all 28 dates.

I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars since it was clearly well-edited, with only a few small mistakes found. It is suggested for those who find humor enjoyable. It is not advised for people who may be extremely sensitive to these matters because the book discusses some borderline abuse and some insensitivity to animals.
