Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace is a memoir of how Dr. Ghoulem Berrah lived his life. After getting a scholarship to study at any university he desired, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah decided to study medicine at the University of Bordeaux. There, he understood that he had to contribute to the fight against discrimination and racism by the French. Acting upon his desire to advance his advocacy for better treatment of his people, he and some Algerian students formed the North African Muslim Students Association. What started as a push against injustice metamorphosed into an active political campaign for Algeria's freedom from France's rule. As the years went by, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah knew he was blessed with the gift of helping people settle their differences. This trait made him a close friend of President Houphouët-Boigny. He became an adviser and a friend to the president, who was passionate about African development. In A Dream For Peace, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah narrates the challenges he faced in his years of travel around the world to maintain peace.
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah made me understand that peace will never come until there is an equal level of development in the world. That will foster understanding. Also, his devotion to caring for the poor and helpless in the book made me wonder how lucky the world was to have him.
In A Dream For Peace, he talks about what he did to maintain peace in several nations. For example, he traveled to Israel with President Houphouët to plead for peace between them and Palestine. While these two nations are currently at each other's throats, back then, he and the people that embarked on this journey with him managed to pass the message across that both nations should converse and sort out their issues.
The lessons in A Dream For Peace are my favorite things about it. It taught me that the divide we have created along religious lines is unnecessary and unfair to everyone. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, although a devout Muslim, respected the faith of others around him. He even dedicated a chapter to explaining the importance of being tolerant of one another as we share more similarities regardless of our diversity in beliefs.
I cannot continue praising this book because doing so will mean that this review will not come to an end. I loved everything about it because it showed me we should never give up on the hope for peaceful co-existence between nations. It had no errors and was edited exceptionally well. I give accolades to the team that made that happen. I disliked nothing about A Dream For Peace. Because of its lack of negative aspects, I award it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
In conclusion, the central theme of this book is peace. It focuses on the tireless works of the author and those he surrounded himself with in their bid to ensure that they leave this planet a better place than they found it. I recommend A Dream For Peace to you if you need hope that ending the ongoing wars in countries like Iraq, Iran, and Israel is possible. Not everyone will become freedom fighters and diplomats like the author and his counterparts. However, you can learn how to play your part in restoring sanity to this planet. This book will not give you answers to all our problems, but it will provide you with ideas of what you can do to help us achieve peace one day.
