As it shall be forever documented in his memoir A Dream For Peace, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's life should be forever celebrated because he served his people right. Instead of becoming a teacher, he chooses to contribute to the struggle to liberate his beloved country from the oppressive regime of the French, and he's arrested more than once. As he fights for the liberation of Algeria, he meets a fellow freedom fighter with whom they get romantically involved, though Antoinette isn't his ideal love match, as it later emerges.

After Algeria forms its own government, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah goes to America and is accepted at Yale University, where he later becomes a professor. One pivotal moment in his life is leaving Yale and all the benefits a professor could have there for a daunting beginning in Africa, in particular Côte d'Ivoire. This is at the request of President Felix Houphouet-Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire. Life is not easy for him there, as expected, but he perseveres and discovers his calling. As a close ally of the president, he is dedicated to the economic and spiritual empowerment of the people. When confronted with Africa's major devil, corruption, he refuses to accept fat envelopes handed to him by government officials.

A Dream For Peace follows the rise of a man born in Aïn Beïda, a remote town in the province of Constantine. Throughout its pages, readers will meet an endearing man who is a true servant of the people. Normally, people in his position would enrich themselves at the expense of serving the public, but Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is an exception. That is something anyone will admire about him.

The book is full of humor. In one instance, Egyptian Fourth Estate members mistook Dr. Gholuem Berrah for US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. It’s also funny that Tanzania's former president, Mwalimu Julias Nyerere, once insisted on Dr. Berrah staying by his side when it became apparent they might be served frog legs. Fidel Castro is also mentioned in the book, specifically the day he insulted the Ivorian president at a summit while unaware that his microphone had been cut off earlier because the organizers had anticipated he might go public with his scathing attacks on the Ivorian president.

As a reader, I found nothing negative about the book. I also checked for errors and found none, concluding that the book had been professionally edited. In terms of rating, I give Dr. Choulem Berrah's A Dream For Peace five out of five stars. The man indeed fought well for peace, served his people devotedly, remained a loving husband to his wife, and was a true religious man. He should be remembered forever.

A Dream For Peace is about the history of Africa. Great leaders are mentioned here, notably Nelson Mandela, Jomo Kenyatta, Julias Nyerere, Hosni Mubarak, Kwame Nkrumah, and many others. As such, it should be a must-read for readers who love history. Overall, I recommend it to readers with a knack for religion, history, and politics.
