Grand Slam Life by Milton Haber, M.D.
Review by Mariana Arango Palacio
This book is almost a biography of his writer, with his words, Haber transports us to his past, his present, and what he imagines in his future.
His journey through childhood and adolescence allows us to empathize with the child that each one of us carries within us, makes us remember our own childhood, and makes us reflect on the way in which we lived childhood.
Milton opens his heart to us in this book, and takes us by the hand to take us on a journey throughout his life, explaining to us the things that were and are important to him, the people in his life, and the way he related to everyone, allowed us to know how he was as a child, allowed us to feel affection for the people he appreciated and passion for the things that little Haber was passionate about.
Milton tells us how life took him along the indicated paths, almost by fate, to the place where he is now, going through his first inclinations in medicine, his time at the university, the social work that studying this career entails, his first jobs, and above all, he makes it very clear his great passion for helping others.
This book is a jewel for humanity, since today's society lived through the global pandemic caused by COVID-19, we can all connect and feel identified with the experience narrated in the book.
The fact that the book is written by a doctor allows us to remove the stereotypes of seeing doctors as almost celestial beings or with superhuman powers because they understand the functioning of the human body better than anyone else, we think that they can prevent any illness or cure any illness since they have this knowledge, but they are human just like everyone else, and even knowledge and science are not enough to prevent illness and pain.
The book is well edited, it is inspiring and very human, and it feels like listening to a friend's story.
So I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
