Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
‘Snatched up to Heaven!’ by Paul Jemima revolves around the fact that in Christianity children are messengers of God, and their stories shouldn’t be overlooked. The book starts off with the authors' daughters Priyanka and Deepika (4 and 2 respectively) each having reoccurring dreams about heaven, the author is intrigued and asks her children to recite their shared dreams. Through the recitation, the author feels as if the holy spirit is guiding her to write it all down, and talks about the significant impacts their dreams have on her life. It starts off with a singular dream where Priyanka and Deepika were carried to heaven by angels but the dream continues over the course of a few days. Throughout the reciting of their dreams, they are able to recount heaven, riding on animals, catching fish, and meeting Jesus and God. They are able to describe these things with a lot of detail which is uncommon for children their age. Paul decides to analyze their stories and finds uncanny parallels to their stories with the scripture. Each chapter starts off with an honest and word-to-word recount of the children's dreams and then continues on with the author's interpretation of the dreams, it can even be read as a short story format to children since every chapter has a new dream and its analysis.
What I really liked about the book was that you could read it over a long course of time and you would still feel very connected to it, since every chapter brings something new. It's very detailed and great for beginners or people who are just getting into the religion of Christianity since it has a lot of explanations for common words in the Christian faith and translations. The book is also written in a simple and easy-to-understand language. The book goes into serious topics as well, such as soulmates and hell from the point of Christians. There's a detailed comparison of Heaven and Hell at the end which might be helpful for people new to the subject. The author goes on to reveal what a big impact the children's dreams had on their families, such as the way they pray the activities they do together and their holidays. The book concluded with some fun videos and pictures that make the reader feel even more connected to the author and their family. Something that I did not like about the book was that it was a little repetitive and the interpretations were longer than the initial dreams which could make it slightly boring at times.
Overall I would give the book 4 out of 5 stars or 3 out of 4 stars, I was not too fond of the pacing because it didn't tie everything together at the end. It did not include any professional errors or edits or any profanity. I would recommend this book to children, people who are developing their faith in Christianity and people who are already familiar with the religion. The book is well-narrated, very calming to read, and a truly heartwarming story.
