Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream for Peace, a memoir by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, tells the tale of his undeniable influence on the world. The book masterfully portrays the achievements of this important political figure and humanitarian.
This beautiful book captures the beauty and hardships that shaped the life of this great man and sheds light on areas that have long been a source of curiosity. It is a compelling story of a remarkable individual.
What I enjoyed most about the book's structure was how each chapter delved into different aspects of this multifaceted man's life, immersing us in his experiences. We journey with him from his early years as a young boy, to his struggles against oppression in France during his university days, and finally to his time as the trusted confidant of President Houphouët-Boigny of Côte d’Ivoire. The chronologically detailed narrative always keeps the reader engaged.
While I appreciated the structure, there were instances where the author hinted at future events, which occasionally distracted me from the story.
The book's length has both advantages and drawbacks. The meticulous attention to detail helped me feel intimately connected to this great man, experiencing his thought process as he made decisions. However, there were times when excessive information was provided, especially when the topic had already been mentioned earlier. Hence, I recommend reading the book with breaks between chapters to fully grasp the remarkable accomplishments described in each chapter and also allow time to absorb the narrative without getting overwhelmed by minor details.
All in all, I give this book a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. It blew my mind that one man could accomplish so much throughout one lifetime. It was masterfully edited as I only came across one error. It is breathtaking to be allowed to traverse the mind of such a great man.
I'd recommend this book to all Africans and any lovers of history and biographies. It is beautifully written, expertly edited, and full of wisdom.

Thanks for the comment. I enjoyed this book immensely. I'm not from Algeria but the fact that he is African is what drew me to it too.Jeff Kanda wrote: ↑26 Jul 2023, 13:38 The fact that the author comes from Algeria made me choose this book. It was a great read because he interacted with prominent individuals in the continent. Thanks for the interesting review.
