A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is an inspiring memoir that delves into the diplomatic history of Africa, with a primary focus on the experiences of Algerians during French colonization. The book beautifully narrates the author's life journey, starting from his upbringing in Aïn Beïda, where he witnessed the discrimination faced by Algerians and took a stand by forming an anti-colonial association. After Algeria gained independence, he went on to become a counselor to President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, offering his assistance to world leaders in pursuit of peace.

Throughout the memoir, he displays respect for different religions and actively engages in conversations. A Dream for Peace not only portrays Berrah's life as a freedom fighter, diplomat, doctor, and advisor, but it also offers a heartfelt account of his personal relationships, emphasizing the significance of his bond with his mother and his marriage to Titi, which provide a counterbalance to the political and social atmosphere.

The book expertly recounts Berrah's journey, from his childhood to his studies in France and the US, and ultimately his dedicated efforts in the fight for liberation and his role as a personal assistant to President Félix Houphouët-Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire. Dr. Berrah's skillful writing and humility add depth and resonance to the narrative, making it a captivating read. While not all his dreams for peace and a united world have been realized, his unwavering hope in the youth and strong foundation lay the groundwork for a future of unity and love. The book also offers practical action points and goals for a harmonious world.

Despite not being the most exceptional memoir I have ever read, it certainly is not the worst. For me, it fell within the realm of a typical memoir. At times, I found the pacing a bit slow, in my humble opinion. However, the book exhibits a level of professional editing, as I did come across a few minor mistakes.

Overall, A Dream for Peace is a well-written and fascinating account of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's life that offers both educational and inspiring insights. With its engaging portrayal of international politics and personal growth, this memoir deserves five out of five stars.

I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy autobiographies and have an interest in understanding the dynamics of international relations. Algerian readers may also find comfort and inspiration in this compelling narrative.
