A Dream for Peace, authored by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, is an autobiographical work that delves into a captivating narrative. It explores the lives of remarkable individuals and exceptional leaders, highlighting the significance of freedom and admirable lifestyles as well as the diverse ways in which people shape their existence. Driven by Berrah's personal journey, the book offers invaluable perspectives on the sacrifices he made for the betterment of society and the influential role he played in the quest for peace in Algeria. It emphasises his resolute dedication to his principles, demonstrating the fortitude and perseverance necessary to advocate for one's convictions.

The author's early years unfolded in a small Algerian town during the period when French rule prevailed. Growing up in a family where polygamy was practised, he stood as his mother's sole surviving son, and she placed immense emphasis on his education. Tragically, he experienced the loss of his father at a tender age. Despite encountering numerous obstacles, he was fortunate to be awarded a scholarship that enabled him to pursue medical studies in France. However, his unwavering convictions exposed him to hostility and opposition during his time there. Rather than succumbing to the pressures he faced, he exhibited remarkable courage and resilience. Driven by his deep frustration with prevailing prejudice, he actively immersed himself in revolutionary movements and organizations. Despite the weight of these commitments, he persisted unwaveringly and achieved his lifelong aspiration of becoming a doctor, eventually even attaining a prestigious professorship. Nevertheless, his journey in Africa remained marred by ongoing encounters with discrimination, and his fight against it persisted as a protracted struggle despite the extraordinary accomplishments he attained along the way.

This book was incredibly inspiring. The author's journey as an activist enlightened me and made me appreciate the immense effort he put into advocating for equality and peace. His life was truly remarkable, from his multiple marriages to his interactions with influential individuals and his travels around the world. Every phase of his story was remarkable, and I found myself admiring his determination. Initially, I had reservations about the book based on its cover, but once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Another aspect I appreciated was the inclusion of a table of contents, which not only provided an overview of the book but also prepared readers for what to expect.

I found nothing to dislike about this book. It was eloquently written and provided valuable information. The author led a remarkable life and actively participated in numerous significant historical occurrences, despite not gaining any personal benefits such as power or wealth.

This book was professionally edited, and I found no errors. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys history, politics, and world religions.
