How To Be Successful: Think Like A Leader by M. Curtis McCoy is a motivational and self-help book that features interviews with eight successful people, including the author himself. In spite of being an entrepreneur, a successful businessman, an influencer, and a motivational speaker, McCoy works on doing something to improve himself each day. At 2 years old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and as an adult, he survived brain cancer. When doctors gave him a few months to survive, as a last hope, he went seeking alternative treatments in Tijuana, Mexico. After being cured, he started a cellular business, which grew into a highly successful nationwide business. Later on, he made it his goal to help people navigate their journey to success through his blogs and Facebook group. This book is the next step in this journey to help people identify their goals, develop the attitude to work towards them, and achieve success.

As someone who started with nothing and who has also survived brain cancer, M. Curtis McCoy shared his thoughts on building a business, his attitude towards life, lifestyle, and relationships, along with the interviews of several successful people. The interviews contain a set of 15 questions, like "What does success mean to you?" Along with the interviews, the author shared life lessons and real-life stories that played a pivotal role in his life, which makes it more relatable and introspective.

It is interesting how the author has chosen people to be interviewed from all walks of life. The range of their work, from a US Navy Seal to a pastor, is fascinating. It also provides scope for a wider range of topics. Although their definition of success is different and their profession is different, they all seemed to have similar advice on certain things like exercising daily, praying to God, reading the Bible, and staying fit. While giving an insight into the opinions and habits of successful people, this book also helps readers understand an important lesson: success is constant progress and never giving up on your goal. It also emphasizes that money is an important part of success.

I liked the narrative of the book and how it is made clear that people define success differently, and it’s okay if you don’t fit into one definition as long as you work towards your goal. It also helped me understand the importance of discipline, family, relationships with friends, and staying positive. There are many enlightening quotes, like "We buy things we don't need with money; we don't have to impress people we don't like."

What I disliked was the mention that ‘if you are always complaining about depression, it affirms in your mind that depression is a part of who you are and tells you that you will never rise.’ As someone who works in healthcare, it felt like undermining mental health issues and discouraging the readers from talking about them. For this reason, I removed a star from the rating. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

The book seems to be professionally edited, and I did not find any errors in it.

I recommend this book to everyone in their twenties, as I found the lessons in it invaluable and inspiring.
