“Thriving in the storm” by Bill Murphy is an interesting and honest guide for anyone who has past trauma or current struggles that are preventing them from achieving their goals. The book Is not fact filled, nor does it claim to be, but rather it is a summary of the life events of Bill Murphy and how he managed to succeed in life and the path he took.
This book would receive a 3/5 rating. It is interesting and easy to read, the personal element keeps the reader gripped and there are a lot of interesting stories that one could learn from. The book loses two points based on the fact that some of the stories/analogies were repeated, which is not necessarily bad, but at a certain point it becomes a bit redundant. There are certain sections in the book that feels redundant, one would understand the concept after one analogy, let alone three. There was also one typo picked up.
“Thriving in the storm” sets out a nice picture of how someone who went through clear struggle got through it and is now living a successful life. It is important to note that they were able to do so in a much different economic time and with the help and support or family members. The author is clearly from a different time and economic status to many people today so while the exercises can be done by anyone, it is important to remember that not everyone will have the same financial success just by doing what is in the book. However, the author never claims that readers will achieve any financial gain from the tips in the book, but rather a happier and deeper meaning in life.
This book is highly recommendable to anyone that needs a simple guide to living a better life and making the most out of a situation. It is easy to follow and the exercises included provide a simple way to achieve what is set out in the book.
This book would help many people who face adversity and need to change their life. Most instructions require little to no financial expense and can be done by even those with little to no means.
