"Canaries Among Us" is the captivating and heart-wrenching story of Kayla Taylor that explores how she navigates learning about her daughter Hannah's learning differences and understanding the things she needs to develop to her full potential. It also explores her fight against those who look down on and diminish anyone that doesn't fit the mold.

This book is extraordinarily passionate and beautifully written. I found myself so immersed in the narrative, rooting for Hannah and feeling my heart break each time a new challenge was placed in her path.

But this book is wonderful for more reasons than just the storyline. It's also because of how the author summarized and explained thoroughly all the information that helped her better understand her daughter and her needs. She does this all with such a level of vulnerability showing her real struggle when choosing what's best for her family and how it can sometimes become exhausting to meet all of her children's needs. Nevertheless, she never backs down and fights relentlessly so her kids can have the kindness and compassion they deserve as human beings.

While at first, I thought I wouldn't get much out of this book, given that I'm not a mother or a caregiver, I learned so much about learning differences and the injustices that surround their educational careers.

I would recommend this book to anyone, not just parents with kids who have learning differences. At the end of the day, is not only a story about the lengths a mother would go to to help her children but is also a human learning and adapting so she can be more mindful of those around her, which is an experience that everyone would benefit from.

This book seems to have been written with so much care and the love of a mother who wants to share as much as she can to give those going through a similar circumstance hope and a sense of lessening isolation. I rate this book a 5 out of 5.
