This book’s name: “Purpose: Design a Community and Change your Life - A Step-by-Step Guide to Finding your Purpose and Making it Matter”, gives you an idea of what you can expect to find in its pages. The book starts by giving some background of the author, Gina Bianchini, starting with her early years and emphasizing how the community around her helped her overcome a very difficult time in her life. It then moves on to her early adulthood and her entrance in the digital world and entrepreneurship. During the first part of the book, the author makes a point of explaining with her own experiences the importance of finding a purpose and how to “make it matter”. Parts 2 and 3 focus on guiding the reader on how to take this newly found purpose and how to use the digital channels to create a community to achieve it.

The author writes in a very engaging way. The book is easy to read and entertaining. While reading, I could feel the passion the author has for this subject coming through the pages. The book certainly fulfills the objective and motivates the reader to find their purpose. The proposed activities are interesting, easy to follow and encourage the reader to waste no time. The arguments and reasoning of the author on why it is important to find purpose and how to design a community to support such purpose are compelling. I must admit that reading this book has somewhat modified my perspective on modern socializing, life planning and how much time we invest in social media. I would rate the book with 4 out of 5 stars. I only deducted one star because I had the impression, from the beginning, that the whole reason behind this book was to drive new creators to the author’s organization. Don’t get me wrong. The information was extremely useful, and it did apply to many aspects of our lives, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling that I was reading a long advertisement.
