Kayla Taylor draws you in from the start and never lets your attention leave through her extensive knowledge of motherhood and the subject of bullying, which she has supported with studies. Her incredible storytelling skills help in relaying the pain of the situation portrayed in the book. Her writing style features interesting information and studies but she has broken it down into an easily digestible format whilst still portraying a very clear and distinct message. Some of the information within the book is startling in a way that encourages the reader to read on in an attempt to have a better grasp of the incredulity of the facts being provided in a feeble attempt for our mind to rationalise it which comes across as a purposeful measure on the author's behalf. The chronology of the story allows for an easy read, not leaving any room for confusion.

Canaries Among Us is a credit to the lengths a mother will go to understand their child and the book raises so many thought-provoking points that would usually get overlooked. It is an eye-opening read to issues faced daily in the world, but also into our minds and how we interact with others; the book promotes self-improvement by increasing the reader's understanding and situational awareness when we may often turn a blind eye. The author has been efficient in creating an environment within the book in that most readers will be able to relate to some extent and sympathise with the struggles throughout.

There is nothing negative that comes to mind when thinking back on the book. I wouldn't consider this a negative but a potential addition to the book may be a trigger warning regarding some references to sexual assault, self-harm, and bullying as a result of the extensive sensitive subjects touched upon in the book. Overall I see no reason to mark this book down as anything les than 5 out of 5.
